The HU were touring across North America in support of Iron Maiden and stopped to perform a one-off headlining show at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center in Harrisburg, PA on 11/7/2024. At this particular stop they had support from The Funeral Portrait. The night was filled with amazing music from the Mongolian Folk-Metal fusion band that had everyone in the crowd shouting “HU!”
Anyway, continue reading below for more photos of The HU and my full review of the show. Be sure to check out The HU’s Official Website for music, videos, news, and tickets for all upcoming tour dates. Images are taken and provided by John Krebs, Carpe Tempus Photography, © All rights reserved.
The HU are always a spectacle to behold. They put on a phenomenal show that blends heavy metal and traditional Mongolian throat singing. It is a such unique sound that creates a lasting impression. I remember the first time I head their music while playing the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I have been hooked on their music ever since I heard “Sugaan Essena” while dicing up in the arena.
Whenever The HU comes to town, I always make sure to go to their show. I have never been disappointed and this night was no different! The show started off with the songs “The Gereg,” “Shihi Hutu,” and “Shoog Shoog.” These songs set the mood for their entire performance where the audience could not help themselves from shouting “HU!” between every song. Pennsylvania absolutely showed up to see The HU!
The HU’s sound is a unique blend between traditional metal guitar, bass, and drums mixed with traditional Mongolian instruments like the Morin Khuur, Tovshuur, and Gereges. I love the use of these instruments in their songs “The Great Chinggis Khaan,” “TATAR Warrior,” “Black Thunder,” “Yuve Yuve Yu,” and “Wolf Totem” which they performed during their set. The crowd definitely got rowdy during “Black Thunder” as the guitar mixed with the Morin Khuur that provided a steady beat and rhythm to jump to.
A major highlight of the night was when The HU performed their cover of “The Trooper” by Iron Maiden. I did not know that I needed this version in my life but I am so glad it is now! I love a good cover song especially when a band uses their signature sound to perform it (especially since all the lyrics are in Mongolian!) If you have not heard it, check out their Official Music Video!
If you ever get a chance to see The HU do not hesitate to go! They are a band everyone should experience live! When The HU comes to the US, they often support other headliners but they definitely do a great job at headlining! Between fast paced songs like “Black Thunder” and “TATAR Warrior” to the power ballad “Mother Nature” they truly have music for everyone to enjoy!
