The Thurston Moore Group played to a full house at the Ottobar in Baltimore. Moore stopped to play a set of instrumental songs. The songs performed were a collection of three extended compositions entitled, Spirit Counsel. Spirit Counsel is an album of three songs that represent a period of reflection on spiritual matters, collective musical friendships, and a time and space universally; without words or languages to distract from meditation.
Moore is best known as the primary singer, songwriter, and guitar player of Sonic Youth. However, he has released several solo albums and side projects since the 90’s. Spirit Counsel is much more jazzy/avant-grade than I expected. Interesting piece of work, no doubt. Check out this Pitchfork Review of Spirit Counsel.
Moore’s band includes guitarist James Sedwards, keyboardist/experimental electronic musician Jon Leidecker, drummer Steve Shelley, and My Bloody Valentine bassist Deb Googe. Whoa. Amazing lineup. Be sure to check out the Official Thurston Moore Website for all things TM and TM Group.
