The Joy Formidable performed at Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, DC on November 29, 2019 — and I, Andy Jillson, was there to capture some of the musical magic. Yep, in this “Photo Flashback” we’re taking a trip down memory lane with The Joy Formidable. Continue reading below for more photos from the show. All images copyright and courtesy of Andy Jillson.
The Joy Formidable are out on the road to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut EP, A Balloon Called Moaning. The band recently announced a North American winter tour called “The Ten Years Floating Tour.” This was the first stop of the bands tour and I’m grateful for the opportunity to photograph such a powerful rock trio in a small club.
Luckily for the fans, The Joy Formidable are still touring and show no signs of slowing down. They are a great live band that omit a contagious sonic energy. I was impressed by the bands sound and performance — as were most others in attendance. Be sure to check out the Official Joy Formidable Website for all upcoming tour dates and other info about the band.
The band recently released of a special commemorative 10-year double album edition of their acclaimed debut release (which you can stream at bottom of post). The new double album edition includes their 2009 EP A Balloon Called Moaning plus a newly recorded acoustic Welsh language version, Y Falŵn Drom.
