Guided by Voices’ new album (and 3rd this year!) Sweating The Plague has been released across all streaming services via GBV Inc. and is available for purchase in multiple formats. The LP was shared with a track by track feature with Consequence of Sound earlier this year and singles from their new record have received praise from KCRW, Stereogum, and many other music media outlets.
Guided by Voices are a band first noted for their lo-fi aesthetic and typically Portastudio four-tracks-to-cassette production methods. Their music was initially influenced by post– British Invasion garage, psychedelic, progressive, punk, and hard rock music. Right there are some of the main reasons I was so drawn to their sound in the 90’s.
The band has had a prolific output, releasing more than 30 full-length albums along with many side projects and solo releases. Most GBV songs are in the 2-3 minute range, but many are even shorter than that. They are a much more varied rock band than I can even begin to accurately describe. Love GBV. That much is true. This will be about my ninth time seeing GBV perform live. I’m overly excited to see them again and feel nothing but gratitude being able to photograph them in their natural habitat — a smokey, dimly-lit room full of of drunken GBV fans. The club is open. Come rock out with GBV!!!
