Lauren Monroe, along with legendary Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen, played a heartfelt set of songs in an intimate setting at The Loft (City Winery DC) this past week. What an honor to have been granted access to cover this performance. Monroe’s music and lyrics are deeply moving and have a healing quality. The subjects and themes within the songs are intense yet the music is somewhat sedative. Bluesy Novocaine for the soul. Bravo.

If you are unfamiliar with Lauren Monore’s music I strongly encourage you to explore. She has an abundance of great material. If you are unfamiliar with Rick Allen and/or Def Leppard…you must not be from this planet. Anyway, be sure to check out the Official Lauren Monroe Website for music, news, merch, and tickets for all upcoming tour dates. Continue reading below for my full review. Fortunately for me I was able to photograph Tool at Capital One Arena in DC recently. Whoa. What an amazing show! Both musically and visually stunning. Psychedelic, progressive hard rock at its finest. A bit challenging for a photographer, but so much nervous excitement. I had not seen Tool since the late 90s. Completely blew my mind.

Tool are still touring the US in support of their fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum. Check the Official Tool Website for remaining tour dates and tickets. Continue reading below for more photos of their performance in DC. All images copyright and courtesy of Andy Jillson.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter, and frontman of The Revivalists, David Shaw played his first ever solo show in DC on 12/18/21. Union Stage was the perfect set and setting for Shaw to showcase the raw poetry and storytelling within his debut solo work. This was a rare treat in an intimate musical setting.

Anyway, be sure to check the Official David Shaw Website for music, videos, merchandise, news, and all upcoming tour dates. Continue reading below for live photos from the performance. All images copyright and courtesy of Zach Brien.

Green Day (Photo by Andy Jillson)

The Hella Mega Tour featuring Green Day and Weezer made a stop in DC on 8/8/2021. I was fortunate enough to be in the photo pit for this one. This is my biggest show to date. Wow…just wow. Surreal is an understatement. I was only allowed in the photo pit for a couple songs, but I made the most of my time. I had a freakin’ blast!

Anyway, tickets for the Hella Mega Tour can be purchased at hellamegatour.com. Also be sure to check out the Official Green Day Website & Official Weezer Website for music, videos, merch, and all upcoming tour dates. Eric Scott (Photo by Andy Jillson)

The Eric Scott Band played a sold out show at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, MD on February 25, 2021 and I was there doing my best to photograph the band behind a plexiglass barrier. Eric Scott is a Washington, DC singer-songwriter and bassist. He has toured internationally and is a 15-time Wammie winner, as awarded by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). He’s also a 2021 Wammie Finalist. Amazing.

Anyway, in this photo flashback, we’re taking a trip down memory lane with the Eric Scott Band. This was my first show of the year, and Eric’s too! Continue reading below for more shots of Eric Scott and his band performing for a sold out (socially-distanced) crowd at Rams Head On Stage. All images copyright and courtesy of Andy Jillson.

Dead Kennedys (Photo by Andy Jillson)

On March 3, 2020 I photographed pioneering punk rockers the Dead Kennedys and D.O.A. at DC’s historic 9:30 Club. I had only vaguely heard about the coronavirus at that time and certainly had no idea this was going to be the last concert I would attend for the next seven months. In between band sets a staff member informed me that the 9:30 Club and all other DC venues were going to be “temporarily shutdown” beginning the following day. Well…here we are almost nine months later. Ugh.

Anyway, in this Photo Flashback I am remembering my time with the Dead Kennedys and D.O.A.. Continue reading below for more images of both bands performing at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on 3/11/2020. All images copyright and courtesy of Andy Jillson.

Refused (Photo by Shane Gardner)

Refused, Youth Code, and Racetraitor played at the 9:30 Club in DC on February 21, 2020 and photographer Shane Gardner was there in the photo pit “pressing buttons” as he would say. Check out Shane’s official website, ROCK N ROLL SOCIALITE, for more examples of his work and information on how to obtain his services. Anyway, in this Photo Flashback were taking a trip down memory lane with Refused, Youth Code, and Racetraitor. Foo Fighters @ Merriweather Post Pavilion

Hazy Eye Music Media is proud to present another interview in a series of interviews I’ve been conducting with some of my favorite concert photographers. I’ve stepped outside of my comfort zone and have begun picking the brains of some phenomenal photographers. My interviews in this series focus on “local” concert photographers. That is photographers around DC, MD, and Northern VA. The DMV as we call it.

Anyway, check it out! I, Andy Jillson, was fortunate enough to chat with Lisa Walker. Lisa is an extremely talented photographer and travel blogger. I met her last summer at a Slayer farewell show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. She shoots festivals, world tours, small gigs, and has traveled overseas on assignment for a NatGeo travel blog. Her work is amazing. Continue reading below for my full interview with Lisa A. Walker. All photos copyright and courtesy of Lisa A. Walker (Shots from the Dark).
