Helmet performed at Union Stage in Washington, DC on October 27, 2019 and I was there to catch some of the action. The band is currently out on their 30th anniversary tour and fans everywhere are losing their shit. I loved Helmet as a teenager in the 90’s, and the band still kicks ass today. They are a constant in my “metal” playlists. Yep, for this “Photo Flashback” we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane with Helmet.

Incubus recently announced a fall tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album, Make Yourself — and the band stopped in Washington, DC to play two nights at the Warner Theatre. I was fortunate enough to photograph Incubus on the second night, October 13, 2019. Wow. What a show. Incubus’ performance will be making my top 5 best concerts of the year list. So much fun. So many great songs. Yep, Incubus was on point and the setlist was fucking awesome!

Legendary rock photographers Mick Rock and Henry Diltz visited City Winery in DC recently to tell the stories behind some of their legendary images during their “Behind The Lens” tour. Presented by Morrison Hotel, and hosted in DC’s beautiful City Winery on October 9, 2019, both Mick Rock and Henry Diltz were an absolute pleasure to meet. Their ground-breaking rock images changed the world of rock photography forever. The two also stayed after for a meet-and-greet to hand-sign some of their most iconic photographic prints.

Built to Spill performed for a soldout crowd at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on October 4, 2019. For this “Photo Flashback” we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane with Built to Spill. Whoa. Being a fan of Built to Spill since my late teens, this was a show I was sure not to miss and an experience I’ll soon not forget.

Concert Review: GWAR @ Rams Head Live 9/29/19

That’s right kids! GWAR landed at Rams Head Live in Baltimore, MD on September 29, 2019 and bathed the adoring audience in alien blood, semen, and other bodily fluids. I was there in a white painter’s suit taking pictures — slipping and sliding around in the photo pit like a madman; or in this case GWAR’S human slave pit.

Snoop Dogg performing at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA

Rap and hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg & Wu-Tang Clan have joined forces for a celebration of two of the most unique and influential albums of all-time; of course, I’m referring to Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Both Snoop Dogg and Wu-Tang Clan dominated the stage and smoked out the crowd at Jiffy Lube Live on Friday September 27, 2019.

For this Hazy Eye Music Media “Photo Flashback” post we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane with Ty Segall & White Fence. As a rule, I never miss an opportunity to catch a performance by the prolific garage rocker and rock & roll slave, Ty Segall. On this go around he paid a visit to Ottobar in Baltimore, MD on February 25, 2019 with fellow indie rocker and American singer-songwriter Tim Presley (aka White Fence). The venue wreaked of beer and stale cigarette smoke for this gig (I mean more so than usual). The band were drinking beer, the crew were drinking, and a large majority of the crowd were joining along.

Concert Review: Live @ 9:30 Club 9/16/19

Ed Kowalczyk of Live performing at DC’s 9:30 Club

One of the biggest “alternative rock” bands to come out of the 1990’s, +LIVE+, stopped at DC’s 9:30 Club recently, and I was there taking photos and reliving a bit of my early teenager years. Live is out on tour again following their 2016 reunion, and the band played an amazing set of songs in front of a frenzied sold-out crowd at DC’s historic venue on September 16, 2019. The 2016 reunion of Live has been well-received by critics and fans alike. The reunion has given the fans a chance to see the band again and/or for the first time and gave the band themselves an opportunity to celebrate this year’s 25th anniversary of, Throwing Copper.
